I Am Sun Mu Film Screening - 11/14/16
HRiNK is hosting a screening of I Am Sun Mu, a documentary directed by Adam Sjoberg on the eponymous artist and North Korean defector. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director himself! 
 
Film Description: Since fleeing his native North Korea to defect to the south, the artist Sun Mu has worked under a defiant alias meaning “no boundaries” to criticize the repressive regime of Kim Jong-un. A former propaganda artist, Sun Mu subverts familiar images that once glorified the Supreme Leader into satirical political pop art. Offered an unlikely solo exhibition in China, the anonymous artist prepares his show undercover, risking his freedom and safety to expose the truth through art.

Tongil Moms Come to Harvard - 10/28/16
HRiNK was happy to welcome the Tongil Moms to Harvard for an hour long session introducing the organization's founding, mission, and representatives. 
Members of Tongil Mom, including Founder and Executive Director Kim Jeong Ah, traveled to the U.S. from Korea to share their own personal stories and spread awareness of child custody issues for North Korean defectors. 
Following its motto, "I want to hug my child!," Tongil Mom focuses on reuniting female NK defectors who became South Korean citizens with their children who reside in either China or North Korea.

Lindenbaum Festival Ensemble "One Orchestra" - 02/10/16
HRiNK invited Hyung Joon Won, the Artistic Director of Lindenbaum Festival Ensemble, to visit Harvard on February 10, 2016 for a performance and conversation at Kirkland House. 
 

Won is an accomplished violinist, a graduate of Julliard, and the executive director of the Lindenbaum Music Company which is based in Seoul. Since 2009, Won has been trying to build a common platform for Korean youth of all backgrounds to come together through music. He takes his inspiration from the Divan Orchestra and seeks to create a "One Orchestra" comprised of young musicians from the two Koreas. In August of 2015 he organized a peace concert at the border of the two countries in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Korean Liberation. Won is also the founder of the Lindenbaum Music Festival and has spoken at the Oxford Union.

 

5K for NK kickoff dinner - 11/3/14

The Harvard Undergraduates for Human Rights in North Korea (HRiNK), Korean Association (KA), and the Korean International Student Association (KISA) held a kickoff dinner for the “5K for NK” campaign.

 

Dr. Kwonjune (KJ) Justin Seung (Partners in Health) joined us in talking about urgent need of medical humanitarian assistance as well as the approach to combat this deadly TB outbreak.

 

Thank you to everyone who came out! A total of $450 was raised from the donation box.
